By Steven Doetschman — fitness equipment technician and owner, Krislynn.comSteven Doetschman demonstrates how to remove an ISIS crank from a Schwinn Airdyne or Schwinn indoor cycle using a Park Tool CCP-22 crank arm puller. ISIS cranks are found on Schwinn bikes made after 2004 and are secured with an Allen bolt in the center. Steve walks through hand-threading the crank tool, snugging it with an adjustable wrench, and turning it to push the crank off the splined spindle. A small amount of lubricant is recommended to protect the threads during removal.

hi my name is Steve and tonight I’m going to show you how to remove an Isis crank from your twin indoor cycle bike and these are the tools that you’ll need you’ll need a black crank arm tool a CCP 44 made for an Isis crank a set of Allen wrenches an adjustable Wren and a little bit of lubricant never hurts anything okay first thing you’re going to do is you’re going to use your allen wrench to remove the Allen Bolt from the center of your crank turning it counterclockwise once you remove this take it out and set it down on the bench because you’re going to need it when you reinstall it the next thing you’re going to do is you’re going to take your crank tool and you’re going to loosen the two pieces you don’t need to take it off but you need to loosen it significantly okay cuz there’s a nut and then there’s a handle and what you’re going to do is you’re going to take this nut and you’re going to screw it into your crank like so and it’s often a good idea to use some lubricant to make sure that it screws in straight and easy and you do not want to cross thread your tool so we always recommend hand threading it in thread it in by hand as far as you can then take an adjustable wrench and snug up tool till it’s nice and snug doesn’t need to be right there that’s not as far in as you can screw it then hold on to your crank arm and turn the black handle clockwise keep turning it and it will remove your crank from the bottom bracket now your crank tool is still going to be in the crank you’re going to have it in your hand take your open Ender wrench unscrew it a couple turns and you should be able to remove it with your hand and now you have removed your Isis crank from your Schwin indoor cycle bite
